Herbert Kobald has been working as a Patent Attorney Candidate at DHS since November 2025.
He studied Physics at Graz University of Technology and subsequently completed a Master’s program in Advanced Materials Science, with a focus on Semiconductor Processing & Nanotechnology, graduating with distinction. He also completed his doctoral studies in Materials Science & Technology at Montanuniversität Leoben with distinction. His doctoral research focuses on dielectric thin film systems for energy storage. As part of his academic work, he also completed an international research stay at the University of Zagreb as well as at the Ruđer Bošković Institute in Zagreb.
Prior to joining DHS, Herbert Kobald worked for several years as a Junior Scientist at Materials Center Leoben Forschung GmbH. There, he was involved in international publicly funded research projects, including a project funded by the European Research Council, and contributed to the development, characterization, and standardization of functional thin film systems for microelectronic applications. Another focus of his work was the drafting, evaluation, and presentation of technical inventions, as well as participation in internal intellectual property and innovation processes.
Herbert Kobald has strong technical expertise particularly in the fields of physics, semiconductor technology, electronics, nanotechnology, as well as materials and functional material systems.
He is currently undergoing training to qualify as a German Patent Attorney and as a European Patent Attorney.
