Simone Giacobbe studied Chemistry at the University of Bologna, from which he graduated (Dott. in Chemistry) in 1988 with a thesis in electrochemistry.

From 1989 to 1991 he was Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Chicago, working in the field of physical organic chemistry.

From 1992 to 1998 Simone was Senior Research Scientist at Glaxo (now GSK) in Verona, where he worked on the development of new molecules for the treatment of CNS disorders.

In June 1998 he joined the European Patent Office (EPO) in Munich, where he worked as Examiner in the fields of Pharmacy, Galenics and Cosmetics. He was also seconded for three years to the Quality Department, where he contributed to the ISO certification of the EPO. From 2014 to 2022 he was Team Manager, in charge of a group of up to 14 Examiners of the EPO.

Simone left the EPO in 2022 to join the law firm Murgitroyd in Munich, and in 2025 he moved to Dilg, Haeusler, Schindelmann Patentanwaltsgesellschaft mbH.

Simone holds diplomas in “Patent litigation in Europe” and “Artificial intelligence and IP” from the University of Strasbourg.

Simone is Italian Mandatario Brevetti and European Patent Attorney. He works in the field of chemistry, with specialty in pharmacy and cosmetics. He is also representative before EUIPO for Designs.

Simone is long-time tutor at the International Section of CEIPI for both the Basic Course and the preparation for the European Qualifying Examination.

Simone speaks fluently Italian, English, French and German.
