Manfred E. Weiss graduated from the University of Augsburg in 1995 in physics with a diploma thesis on mechanical stresses in magnetoresistance thin films. From 1995 to 1998 he worked as an assistant to Prof. Dr. K. Samwer in the field of material science and received a PhD summa cum laude. His thesis was on mechanical properties and thermal stability of glass forming alloys.

From 1999 to 2005 Manfred worked at the patent law firm Meissner, Bolte & Partner. He passed the German patent bar examination in 2003 and qualified as a European Patent Attorney in 2004. He is a registered European Trademark and Design Attorney. From 2005 to 2008 Manfred worked as independent patent attorney and joined DHS Patentanwalts GmbH in 2008.

His patent law practice focuses in particular on the preparation of applications for intellectual property rights as well as the conduct and supervision of registration and examination proceedings of intellectual property rights, in particular patents, utility models and trademarks, both for a single intellectual property right as well as for large international families of intellectual property rights. Further practice areas include the enforcement and defense of industrial property rights, such as in infringement, opposition and utility model cancellation proceedings. Manfred also supports clients with expert opinions, e.g. with regard to protectability and evaluation of intellectual property rights, for example in the course of the market launch of new products or in the course of acquisitions.

As a patent attorney his work has focused on the technical fields of laser processing, tire technology, coating materials, hard- and software, biogas systems, well drilling, mobile telecommunication systems, frequency filters, optical data communication systems, pointing devices, flat panel displays, semiconductor process technology, medical technology, vehicle propulsion systems, printing machines and printing machine accessory equipment, ink-jet printers, welding power supplies, paint spray lines and powder spray systems, household appliances and industrial kitchen equipment.
